Freightliner is the most popular truck brand on American highways, accounting for nearly 40% of Class 8 truck registrations. At Albert's Road Service, we work on more Freightliners than any other brand — and it shows in the depth of our diagnostic capability and parts inventory. Whether you're running a fleet of Cascadias on I-95 or operating an M2 box truck in the West Palm Beach heat, we come to you with the tools and knowledge to get it fixed right.

Freightliner Coverage

Models We Service

Cascadia (Class 8 Highway)

The workhorse of long-haul and regional trucking. We service both the classic Cascadia and the redesigned New Cascadia, including the 72" and 48" sleeper configurations. These trucks log serious miles in Florida, and the heat takes a toll on cooling systems, aftertreatment components, and electrical connections.

M2 106 / M2 112 (Medium-Duty)

The go-to medium-duty chassis for box trucks, flatbeds, rollbacks, and service bodies. We see M2s daily in delivery and construction fleets across South Florida. Common work includes Cummins ISB/ISL engine service, Allison transmission issues, and body builder wiring problems.

Columbia / Century / Coronado

Older but still very much on the road. These models run Detroit Series 60, Cummins ISX, and Caterpillar engines. We handle everything from overhead adjustments to complete aftertreatment retrofits on these legacy platforms.

122SD / 114SD / 108SD (Severe Duty)

Built for dump trucks, mixers, and heavy vocational work. Florida's construction industry keeps these trucks busy year-round, and we service the unique severe-duty suspension, PTO systems, and heavy-haul drivetrain components they require.

Powertrain

Engine Platforms

Freightliner trucks are predominantly powered by Detroit Diesel engines — the DD13 (12.8L), DD15 (14.8L), and DD16 (15.6L). We carry Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link (DDDL) software and can perform full engine diagnostics including fault code reading, live data streaming, DPF regeneration commands, injector calibration, and ECM parameter adjustments. For Freightliners equipped with Cummins power (ISX, X15, ISB, ISL), we run Cummins INSITE for complete engine coverage. The DT12 automated manual transmission is standard on most Cascadias — we diagnose clutch wear, shift quality, and actuator faults using DDDL's integrated transmission module.

Know the Signs

Common Freightliner Problems We Fix

Cascadia aftertreatment derates

The single most common call we get. The one-box aftertreatment system on newer Cascadias bundles the DPF, DOC, SCR, and DEF dosing into a single unit. NOx sensor failures, DEF quality sensor faults, and SCR efficiency codes (SPN 4364) will derate the truck to 5 mph if ignored. We diagnose the root cause on-site rather than blindly replacing sensors.

DT12 transmission shudder and fault codes

The DT12 automated transmission develops clutch wear, shift actuator problems, and input speed sensor failures. Florida's stop-and-go traffic accelerates clutch wear on trucks that were spec'd for highway use. We read transmission data, check clutch teach points, and perform resets when needed.

Detroit DD15 oil leaks

The rear main seal, front cover gasket, and oil cooler housing on the DD15 are known leak points. Florida heat makes gasket materials deteriorate faster. We pinpoint the leak source and make the repair without pulling the engine.

Cascadia multiplexing and electrical faults

The Cascadia uses a complex body controller and SAM (Signal Acquisition Module) system. Corroded connectors — a constant problem in Florida's salt air and humidity — cause phantom warnings, inoperative lights, and HVAC failures. We trace and repair wiring issues that other shops can't find.

Cooling system failures

Radiators, charge air coolers, and water pumps work overtime in South Florida's 95-degree heat. We see cracked coolant tanks, blown charge air cooler boots, and fan clutch failures regularly, especially on trucks pulling heavy loads through the Everglades corridor.

EGR cooler and valve failures

The DD15's EGR system is a known trouble spot. Internal cooler leaks contaminate the intake with coolant, and stuck EGR valves cause poor performance and high exhaust temps.

Factory-Level Tools

Our Freightliner Diagnostic Capabilities

We carry Detroit Diesel Diagnostic Link (DDDL) — the factory software used by Freightliner dealerships — and can perform:

  • Full engine and transmission fault code reading with freeze-frame data
  • Forced DPF regenerations and aftertreatment system tests
  • Injector calibration and cylinder cut-out tests
  • DT12 clutch teach-in and shift adaptation resets
  • SAM module configuration and body builder parameter changes
  • Live data monitoring for fuel pressure, boost, EGT, and NOx levels
  • Trip and lifetime data review for fleet maintenance planning

South Florida Heat Is Hard on Freightliner Trucks

High ambient temperatures in South Florida stress cooling systems, aftertreatment components, and electrical connections harder than anywhere else in the country. Our technicians are trained for Florida climate conditions — we know what fails first on Freightliner trucks running in this heat, and we come prepared.
