Know the Signs

Common PACCAR Engine Problems We Fix

Aftertreatment derates

Like all modern diesels, the PACCAR MX aftertreatment system is the most common reason for a service call. Failed NOx sensors, DEF quality issues, and plugged DPF filters cause derates that limit your speed and power. We test each component individually to find the actual failure.

Fuel injector failures

The MX-13 operates at extreme injection pressures. When an injector starts leaking internally, you get white smoke, rough idle, and fuel in the oil. We perform injector cut-out tests and contribution analysis on-site.

VGT turbo actuator issues

The variable geometry turbo on MX engines uses an electronic actuator that can fail or stick. This causes low boost, black smoke, or over-boost conditions. We diagnose and repair without removing the turbo.

EGR valve sticking

Carbon buildup causes the EGR valve to stick open or closed. Symptoms include rough idle, excessive smoke, and poor fuel economy. We clean or replace as needed.

Coolant leaks

The MX-13 is known for coolant leaks at the EGR cooler connections and water pump area. We pressure test the system and pinpoint the source on-site.

Factory-Level Tools

Our PACCAR Diagnostic Capabilities

We use PACCAR Davie4 diagnostic software for:

  • Complete engine fault code diagnosis
  • Aftertreatment component testing
  • Forced DPF regeneration
  • Injector coding and calibration
  • Live sensor data monitoring
  • ECM parameter adjustments
  • Trip and fuel consumption data analysis
