Broken Down Right Now in Florida Turnpike?
Don't wait — call us and we'll dispatch immediately.
The Florida Turnpike is a limited-access toll road. That sounds simple enough until your truck breaks down on it.
There are no shoulder exits on the Turnpike. No quick ramp to a gas station, no service road to pull off on, no nearby shop you can limp to. If your rig goes down on the Turnpike — whether it's a blown tire at mile marker 89, a derate that kicks in between exits, or a brake chamber that locks up at a toll plaza — you are sitting on a controlled-access highway with trucks rolling past at 70 mph. You need a mobile mechanic, and you need one fast.
Albert's Road Service covers the Florida Turnpike mainline and the Homestead Extension (HEFT) through St. Lucie, Martin, Palm Beach, and Broward counties. We respond to the shoulder, to service plazas, and to trucks FHP has pushed to the next exit. One call: 561-475-8052.
Why the Turnpike Is Different From Every Other Road
On a regular state road or even I-95, you have options. You can nurse a truck to an exit, find a parking lot, call from a safe location. The Turnpike removes those options. Once you lose power, lose air, or blow a tire, you're on the shoulder of a high-speed limited-access highway with no good place to go.
Florida Highway Patrol will respond and may push your truck to the next exit or nearest service plaza. That's actually helpful — it gets you to a safer location where we can work. When you call us, tell us where you are (mile marker and direction) and whether FHP is on scene. We'll coordinate to meet you wherever they push you, or we'll come straight to your shoulder position if it's safe.
Service plazas are a legitimate safe haven. If you can make it to a service plaza — Yeehaw Junction, Fort Pierce, Turkey Lake — we'll meet you there. We can work in a plaza parking lot all day long. It's safer for you, faster for us, and better for the repair.

Turnpike-Specific Breakdowns — What We See Every Week
The Turnpike generates specific breakdown patterns you don't see on stop-and-go city roads. Trucks run at sustained highway speed for long stretches, then slow for toll plazas, then accelerate back to 65-70 mph. That cycle creates stress patterns on certain systems: ### DEF and DPF Derates We carry diagnostic software for Cummins, Detroit, PACCAR, and other major platforms to read fault codes, force a stationary regen if conditions allow, and diagnose DEF injector, NOx sensor, and dosing unit failures. We can't always solve a severely clogged DPF on the roadside, but we can tell you exactly what's wrong and what your options are. ### Tire Blowouts at Highway Speed Sustained highway speed at high load is the worst possible condition for a marginal tire. Under-inflation, overloading, and heat buildup combine on the Turnpike to destroy tires that seemed fine at the start of the run. The damage from a high-speed blowout isn't just the tire — it often tears up mud flaps, fenders, wiring harnesses, and ABS sensor leads. We respond to tire events with the tools to assess and replace, repair the secondary damage, and clear any ABS fault codes generated by the blowout event. ### Air System Failures — Emergency Brakes Lock When a truck's air pressure drops below threshold — from a blown air line, a failed compressor, or a severe air leak — the spring brakes engage automatically. On the Turnpike, that means sudden deceleration on a high-speed roadway with limited shoulder. This is a dangerous situation. We carry air line fittings, glad hands, compressor components, brake chambers, and spring brake caging bolts. If the spring brakes have engaged and you need to move to a safer location before we arrive, FHP may be able to assist — but do not attempt to manually release spring brakes without proper tools and training. ### Overheating from Grade Climbs The Turnpike isn't flat. Overpasses, bridges, and extended grades push cooling systems harder than flat highway running. Trucks that have a marginal cooling system — slow coolant leak, partially clogged radiator, thermostat starting to stick — will be fine on flat roads until they hit a sustained grade. Then the temperature climbs, the gauge pins, and they pull off. We carry common coolant hose sizes, thermostat kits, water pump components, and stop-leak for emergencies when a full repair isn't possible on the shoulder. Our goal is to get you to the next exit safely so we can complete the repair. ### Fuel System Failures ### Electrical Failures at Rest Stops A truck that shuts down at a Turnpike service plaza and won't restart is one of the more frustrating breakdown scenarios. You're technically safe, but you're also in a parking lot with no help for miles. Dead batteries, failed alternators, and blown fusible links are the common culprits. We test the full charging system, replace components on-site, and make sure the root cause is addressed before you head back out.

DEF and DPF Derates
This is the most common Turnpike breakdown call we receive. Highway-speed trucks run efficient combustion cycles, but DPF systems still accumulate soot over time. When a truck can't initiate a passive or active regen — or when the DEF system develops a fault — the ECM initiates a derate. First it limits you to 55 mph. Then 35. Then 5 mph. On the Turnpike, a 5 mph derate means you're done.
We carry diagnostic software for Cummins, Detroit, PACCAR, and other major platforms to read fault codes, force a stationary regen if conditions allow, and diagnose DEF injector, NOx sensor, and dosing unit failures. We can't always solve a severely clogged DPF on the roadside, but we can tell you exactly what's wrong and what your options are.

Fuel System Failures
Clogged fuel filters, air intrusion from a leaking supply fitting, and lift pump failures leave trucks that won't start at a service plaza or that lose power progressively on the highway. We carry filter elements for most major platforms and can bleed and prime fuel systems roadside to confirm whether the issue is filtration or something deeper.
Electrical Failures at Rest Stops

How Turnpike Calls Work — What to Expect
- Pull as far right as possible onto the shoulder. If you can reach a gore area before an exit, do it.
- Activate hazard flashers immediately — even before you're fully stopped.
- Set reflective triangles behind the truck at 10 ft, 100 ft, and 200 ft.
- Stay in your cab with your seatbelt on. Do not stand behind the truck on the Turnpike shoulder.
- Note your mile marker — green signs are posted every tenth of a mile. This is how we find you.
- Call 561-475-8052 — give us your mile marker, direction (northbound or southbound), and what the truck is doing.
- If FHP arrives, they may push you to the next exit or a service plaza. That's fine — tell us where they're taking you and we'll meet you there.
We'll confirm your location, give you a realistic ETA, and talk you through anything you can do safely while you wait.
No Mobile Coverage on the Turnpike — Except Us
Here's the reality of breakdown service on the Florida Turnpike: there is almost no mobile truck repair coverage dedicated to this road. Fixed shops are miles off the highway. Towing is expensive and slow. The Turnpike Motorist Assistance program can push you to an exit but can't fix the truck.
Albert's Road Service fills that gap. We cover the Turnpike from Stuart to Broward County as part of our regular service area. We respond to calls on the mainline, at service plazas, and at exit ramps. We work on all makes and all engine platforms.
$100 diagnostic fee. $175/hour labor. No tow required on most calls. All brands.
